So sorry you struggled to make this sauce Carol. To answer you question; yes, there should definitely be that much oil to account for the amount of flour. If you made the sauce on a medium heat as stated, it does take about 15 minutes to thicken up. It will look like nothing is happening for a while, and when it does thicken up, it happens pretty quickly. We hope you try again!

]]>i scaled the recipe down to 1 ½ cup because im not going to use a full4 cups, and used cornstarch instead of flour because of celiac. beyond surprised with how easy and quick this recipe is, most vegan cheese sauces take at least 2 hours to make. as long as you have a clean pot you can make this last minute.
